Determining CD-R Speed?

Postby Pilgrim on Sun Nov 09, 2003 8:46 pm

This may be a dumb question, but what utility should I use to find out what the recording speed is of a CD-R? I've used Nero CD Speed and Info Tool already. Info Tool display nothing for speed. The CD Speed test showed:

Start: 23:43
Average: 38:70
End: 50:73

But I'm not sure how to interpret that data.

Thanks for humoring this beginner! :-?

SmartBurn checker from LiteOn is a favorite, but may or may not give accurate results with non-LiteOn drives.
your burning program will tell you the same thing is you just put a disc in and go to the burning dialog to see what speeds are available.

I downloaded the Liteon "SmartBurn Media Check" program and this is what I got:

Does this mean that these Fuji CD-R (TY) disks burn at 52x? That doesn't seem right. And yes, I have a Liteon burner.

Thanks again for your patience.

That means they'll do 52x, yes.

they may not actually hit 52x on that drive, depending on the firmware and the drive itself. Mine tops out at about 45x on TY.
