Dirty Disk Error...

Postby MartyMcFly on Wed Oct 13, 2004 2:28 pm

Hi...
Im new to this forum so take it easy on me...
PC with win xp home...I have a cyberdrv cd-r/rw by adapti I believe...
well I have been trying to burn some cd-r's and latley ALL Ive been getting has been "dirty disk errors" I have even put in one of those cd's that are supposed to clean your laser and it didnt work. The error message says to try a different manufacturer for cd-r's and I did that as well. Still doesnt burn cd-r's The drive still reads cd's. But it will not burn them...
I tried using record now for my burning software and also musicmatch. they both give me the same error message...
Help me please...

no, it means nobody had useful input.

it's hard to figure what's going on without more info.
what drive is it? (you didn't exactly describe it accurately).
what firmware does it have?
what burning software did you use, which version? did it come with the drive?
what OS is running your computer?
what are you trying to burn to CD?
what brand of CDs did you use?

what burning software did you use, which version? did it come with the drive? I tried "Record Now" that came with my computer and "Musicmatch 9.0" and both give me the same error. Both of these programs worked fine for burning a month ago.
what OS is running your computer? Windows XP home.
what are you trying to burn to CD? Both Pics and Music
what brand of CDs did you use? Both "Memorex 700mb 52X speed" and "Imation 700mb"

It did work and now it doesn't work. So what has changed, the media, software, dirt or partial death???

You could-
Try using XP's built in software.
If you haven't already, try using the exact same media that you have used successfully in the past.
Try to clean the drive with compressed air.

Not an expert, but that's what I would try... good luck..

no idea.
your drive might be faulty.

if possible, try to take it out and put it into another computer, see if it works there (might be some kind of system mess-up, software incompatibility, ASPI probelm...)

try using higher quality media. Taiyo Yuden if you know how to get some. perhpas Verbatim DataLifePlus (though i don't know if your drive likes these discs).

try updating the firmware of your drive. look at the manufacturer's website to see if there's a newer firmware for your drive.
too see what firmware you drive has now you can use a utility such as Nero InfoTool ( http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroInfoTool_227.zip ). i'm sure RecordNow also shows this info in Drive Properties (or something like that).
