Disc Tattoo with generic CDRW drive?

Postby CameraMan on Sat Sep 27, 2003 2:33 am

Is there a way to tattoo a disc without using that Yamaha burner? I've got a little project in mind, and it needs a reflective surface. CD's are perfect, but I need a pattern on them to make things work. I'm not so 'into it' that I will spend the $$ on the Yamaha, but if there is another way, I might be game.

Unfortunately, this can only be done on a Yamaha drive. :(

Disc Tattoo is a feature that uses the CD-RW drive's laser to "draw" pictures and text on the recording surface of a disc. Of course, data can't be stored in these areas. As far as I know, the Yamaha CRW-F1 (no longer produced) is the only drive which has this feature.

Wow,thats great. Why did Yamaha step out of the CD-RW business if it could produce such good and different things?

My guess would be that Yamaha wasn't making enough money from their drive sales. I don't think that their drives were as popular as others (like Lite-ON) because their prices were very high compared to others.

Edit: You're welcome. :D
