Does Memorex suck?

Postby wallman on Mon Feb 02, 2004 11:28 pm

I am getting very frustrated.
Does anyone know of a way to make my NEC ND-2500A burn Memorex/CMC Magnetics Music CD-R 40X burn faster than 16X?
I am using Nero 6. Firmware 1.06.

Don't believe the packaging on those memorex.I haven't had any probs with em burnin' but the speed never seems to work out.Only one I ever burned faster than 16x was a Sony cd-r and that was by accident.

The answer is: Yes, it sucks! I do not purchase Memorex media after having playback issues of movie back-ups burnt with my Optorite DVD-/+R/W on Memorex DVD+R and DVD-R. Memorex media is originally manufactured by different brands (Mitsubishi Chemicals in my case). And I cannot afford to buy Memorex lottery hoping to win a good brand. I have same bad experience with Memorex CD-R media: slow burning or a lot of coasters.

But I have never had problems with more expensive brands like TDK or Fujifilm. No matter where these disks are manufactured, TDK and Fujifilm will put their stamps only on premium grade disks, not on all Ritek G04's, but on premium grade Ritek G04's. That's why I always pass on all Memorex clearance sales even if the media is free after instant and mail-in rebates. I will buy TDK and Fujifilm: eventually less expensive, less headaches.

Are you shure you got MCC media packaged as Memorex and not CMC ?
I'm asking this since it's the first time DVD-R/DVD+R's from Mitsubishi have been spotted branded as Memorex. For DVD+/-R(W) I think the change is quite possible but for recordables I would find it odd since Mitsubishi has problems supplying there own brands.

Memorex buys large amounts of who ever gives them the best deal.
Sometimes this results in good disc's but in other cases the quality is terrible.

RJW: Yes, I remember purchasing Memorex 4X DVD+R from Circuit City about 3-4 months ago. Both Nero and DVDInfo showed manufacturer as Mitsubishi Chemicals. That was the first and last time I had DVD media made by Mitsubishi.
