Why this issue necessitated another post is beyond me.
As I said in the other post. DVD media market is like the CDR market a year and a half ago, manufacturing quality is questionable with the cheap stuff, buy brand name media. You didn't buy brand name media and look what happened.
The drive automatically selects the best speed to burn for the media. I'd assume it's based on the ATIP info and compares it against what the Sony engineers plug into the drive. Nero selects the fastest speed by default and if a speed for a specific type of media is unavailable, you can't choose it.
I guess what I'm getting at is that you should just buy quality media and let the drive burn discs without trying to mess with speed. It causes much fewer headaches. I backed up my AVIs, MP3s and some work documents today, burned 25 DVD+Rs with no coasters and no problems @ 4X.
I'd also recommend you use RecordNow, does a much better job than Nero burning DVDs IMO.
Best Buy has 4X Verbatims for $2/disc. Best deal I've found so far, that includes online retailers.
LiteOnGuy, only way to speed up the 510A is if Sony releases a firmware update than enables 4X -RW speeds.
