If you need a DVD-R/RW/RAM drive ASAP, its a good drive. Otherwise, if you can wait a month or two, wait for their new multi-format drive.

In the advanced tests, the GMA-4020B was able to read the CD-Text, subchannel data and the lead in, but was unable to read the lead out section of the test CD.

You sure this can copy most copy protection and PSX games and such ? or will i have to buy a seperate burner to do this ?

The reason i like this so much is because the price is very very good :) 250$CND. Which is around 185$US dollars.
Speed isn't a problem for me as long as I can burn a DVD :)
How much will this multiformat dvd burner cost and will other burners fall in price when this comes out ?

Ian, I thought the 4040B was going to hit the market in the near future. You heard otherwise?

Weren't they supposed to start production in June? That was for the Jap market anyway. It usually takes awhile for their stuff to make its way to the US.

I was under the impression it was supposed to hit the US market in June. I read that somwhere and Kenny confirmed it. Though it seems his info is a bit suspect of late... *cough LiteOn sub $200 dual format burner.

The only announcements I've seen were for the Asian market. Unless its Plextor or Pioneer or something, it usually takes a few weeks for drives to get over to the US.

Who knows.. we'll just have to wait until June and see. Yeah, I dunno who started that sub-$200 Lite-On drive rumor.

Going back to goden99's questions, the GMA-4020B can backup Safedisc at least up to 2.51. I didn't try the drive with newer versions. No idea about PSX. I don't see why it couldn't.

How can I confirm the marketing schedule of LG or Hitachi in the US market when I live in South Korea? LG doesn't talk about those things to its domestic press or consumers. Top secrets for the corporate management and the state. :D
