DVD/DivX player.

Postby pranav81 on Fri Oct 28, 2005 2:51 am

Hi guys.

I am thinking of buying a DivX player to play the files on my TV.I will probably go for Pioneer or LG.

What I would like to know is,which format do these players play.I mean can they play DivX Pro files encoded with different DivX versions? Also can they play files which are interleaved with different audio tracks, like AC3 or MP3?

Finally at what bit rates should I encode the video for optimum performance on the TV?

Thanks in advance.

Pioneers have terrible zoom function - 2x and 4x only. They should offer also 1.5x zoom to make picture watchable.

I'm satisfied with Yamada DVX-6700. After you flash its firmware with the New Age v3, it plays almost anything. :D

Here's a list of DivX certified players:

Some of the descriptions will tell you what versions of DivX they support.

Thanks for the link Ian.But in India LG has different model which is not listed on the DivX site. The model available here is DSI-8755,which is not enlisted on the DivX site.

I think I will burn some DivX files on some CD-RW's & take them to the LG showroom & check the DVD player out.

if you are actually going to use it with CD-Rs i suggest you test it in showrooms with CDRs not CDRWs.

I too have not seen Yamada DVD players.BTW,Han,how do you flash DVD players?

BTW,I visited the LG showroom here. The model I was seeking was not available, the guy there asked me to visit again after a couple of days.I will let you guys know once I visit the showroom.

I think I will go for LG as there is no Pioneer showroom or authorised dealer here in my city.If I buy Pioneer,I will have to get it from my neighbouring city, where there is a exclusive showroom.

Regards,

Hmm, I'm beginning to believe that US market is a strange one.

To flash a player you have to burn the ISO image that contains firmware in bin file on CD-R(W). When you insert such disc into the player, it automatically detects new firmware and asks you whether you want to flash it...
