What DVD media is the best

I came across this question several times, all without a comprehensive answer. For CD-R's the answer has been agreed upon for a while now, Tayio Yuden seems to have the popular vote. Now how about the various DVD media? I guess we'll have to answer the question for both DVD+R and DVD-R.

I have absolutely no knowledge on this, so it's for someone more knowledgable to start the show.

I think DVD burning is still too new to come up with definitive answers at this point. There is still a lot of shaking out left to be done.

Probably the case, but why not start shaking now. 8)

I don't know squat about DVD media, but I'd like to know a bit more before I buy a DVD writer rather than having to find out afterwards.
