8x DVD+R: NEC ND-1500A

Postby Kennyshin on Sun Jul 27, 2003 6:15 pm

NEC has just told us that their 8x DVD+R writer ND-1500A will be available around November this year. Hopefully, 8x DVD+R/8x DVD-R version will soon follow.

I wonder if the 1500A will support 8x DVD-R or just 4x like the new Plextor does?
What kind of writing strategy will drives use for 8x? CAV? Z-CLV?

That's a good point actually; I can't see the 8x writers being CLV!!!

Is the reason behind no 8x DVD-R yet therefore the fact that, unlike DVD+R, the PCAV/CAV writing mode is not yet written into spec? Given that in terms of the media there is very little difference materials-wise between +R and -R there should be no reason why DVD-R media shouldn't be just as possible.

According to the original post (and Ian's specs), the 1500A is NOT a dual burner, so it will not write -R.

Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

LiteOn 52246S 52X CD-RW

:) Sure is.
I am wondering whether I should sell two of my three (all 4X) burners
and wait for the 16X that might be out next year, according to an old article from January (PC World?).

DVDWriter.co.kr seems to be the only site with anything related to ND-1500A. I founded the site but I no more run it. I have http://www.storageinfo.co.kr and http://www.tfh.co.kr instead. I didn't publish the info on my site front page because the available information is yet premature. NEC will first ship to PC makers like HP and Dell and later to OEM distributors like TDK. So I need luck to get some sample units by October.

Is there anyway to see the sites (yours and the one you founded but no longer own) in english?

No. I was the only one capable of posting in English there and none of the rest was enthusiastic about creating an English site. :D

StorageInfo.net will be the mirror page of StorageInfo.co.kr for some time but I haven't created anything for the .net site yet. I own all related domains. 14 so far. This is the only place for me to post that runs on my own server. As you can see, less than 10 persons registered.

Anyway, more information on NEC ND-1500A. None of the specifications above is final. The specifications are to be determined and not meant for the public eyes. Especially, the "DVD+MRW" could be missing in the actual machine.
