i was flabbergasted yesterday when i walked into a computer shop here in Israel, to find that they sell 4x DVD+RW from Ricoh!
they had DVD+R and DVD+RW 4x.
the prices won't so surprising though :o
Ricoh DVD+R 4x: $5.55
Ricoh DVD+RW 4x: $10.44
HP DVD+RW (speed not specified so i assume it's 2.4x): $19.78 no that's not a typo.

out of curiousity i also checked some DVD media prices in Office Depot (Israel).
Verbatim DVD+RW 2.4x: $6.22
Verbatim DVD+R 4x: $4.44
Verbatim DVD-R 4x (i think): $4.44
TDK DVD+R (speed not specified so i assume it's 2.4x): $6.67
TDK DVD-R (speed not specified so i assume it's 2x): $6.67
Maxell DVD+R 2.4x: $4.45
Phillips DVD+R 4x: $4.45
that's all i remember.

a curiousity:
LG GSA-4040B is available in almost every computer shop i've looked at, selling for 1400 shekels = $311. but (using the local "pricegrabber") hardly in any online shops, and always more expensive :o
the Plextor 708A i haven't seen in shops, but online the cheapest price i saw was 1600 shekels = $356. (both drives - retial box).
my point - very small price difference.
whereas in the US, if i'm not mistaken, the LG is much cheaper than the plex! looking at pricegrabber, the cheapest i see the LG is $130 vs. some $200 for the Plextor.
note also the price differences Israel vs. US !!! :x

Wait, you saw a DVD burner for 5 USD, and didn't buy it? WHY?

LOL forgot to say it was media!
yeah, that shop had also the Richo DVD+R/W drive MP-5240A for 1000 shekels = $222.
for a similar price you can also get Pioneer 106 retail.

1 DVD-R disk in a Slim Jewel case does cost about $4-5 over here.

Does anyone offer 8X media yet? If so, how much is it going for? I checked the Lite-On, one nice thing is that is burns CD-R at 40X.
