C1 errors during writing: How can I know the level?

Postby cfec on Mon Dec 02, 2002 2:42 am

There is a bug on the MP3 player SlimX that is related to reading errors.

=================================
I read this post on Hydrogenaudio by Mc Tanza:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=4230&st=25

There is another common myth, LeFlore pointed it out before. I'm talking about his/her statement of "speed kills", that's not true, or at least not totally true. The quality of a burnt disc, and its readability depends almost solely on the level of c1 errors occurred during the writing (and of course, on the level of c2 errors, but if these occur too much, you better change your burner). This can be tweaked via firmware, and the media support included in it. As an example, we have the Lite-On 48x (model 48125w). This drive gives good or very good writing quality at speeds of 24x or more, but it performs really bad in the 16x and less area.
====================================

I think that a better readability of my burnt CDs will help to correct the 'blips' heard on the SlimX, but I don't know how to test the level of C1 errors (and therefore finding the better writing speed and recordable media) on my drive: LG GCE-8320B

How can I do it?

Thanks
Christian

there's a program called WSES that works only on Lite-On drives, it tests the quality of the burns, C1 and C2 errors.

it isn't officially out. kind of hard to find. try google.

apparently if you don't use it correctly it can damage your drive. be careful. try to find help in the cdfreaks forums.

I learned yesterday that the latest Firmware for the SlimX is supposed to have corrected this bug.

I already knew about WSES from a tutorial but with no download links. Very handy... :-?

Use this tutorial instead. It is the best (and original) reference for WSES. Any other place with info on WSES probably "borrowed" it from here. Read some of the later posts.. interesting comments..

OK I read it.

BTW reading a tutorial (cdrinfo) about a software without a link to download it, is kind of like being alone and reading the instructions on a box of condoms.
