I have to admit I prefer Jap cars, mainly because I'm less likely to be left stranded in one than the Euro/US makes in the main ;)

My personal favourite at the moment is the 2.9 Mitsi Galant V6. Lovely car.

My least favourite is that nasty new Renault Megane. Eurgh, so ugly!!! The Vel Satis isn't much better either. And as for the Clio/Laguna, you seen how unreliable these pieces of junk have become lately?

if i'm not mistaken, Renault Megane is the safest car according to Euro Ncap, no?

It may well be (in its class), but could you drive one?

It has been shown that Renault electrics (and French car electrics in general) are fundamentally unreliable. Over at www.parkers.co.uk a good 30% of the problems they receive from users are with current Renault models (it seems virtually every component in the cars are prone to failure) and one of my best friends is a Renault dealer; he wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!!! That says a lot

I used to think Fiat were the dodgy company, but it would seem that they're a paragon of reliability these days compared with Renault!!

Take a look here:

http://www.parkers.co.uk/advice/message ... FORUM_ID=8

And look at the sheer number of Renault problems (Clio especially) and more to the point the resigned attitude of the experts on there!!

yes it does!

BTW about the Euro NCap, i think the Renault Megane got the highest ever ratings there...so not only in it's class?

as for me personally, i have a deep hatred for Renault.
i know it's completely irrational (and i think i know the reasons for it). but it's there! wouldn't touch one with a bargepole either (not that there are any bargepoles in Israel  )

i own a VW Golf and like it!

Renalt Laguna was the first car to achieve 5 star Euro NCAP rating. After Laguna these models have also achieved five stars: Renault Megane II, Vel Satis, M-B C and E class and Saab 9-3 (new model). I'm not absolutely sure about this list, but it feels good enough for posting.

Good car the VW Golf. Very solid.

I personally have a Nissan Sunny 1994. I know it's a daft name, but no mechanical or electrical failures in 8-and-a-half years and 100K town miles speaks volumes about Japanese reliability :D and it's very solid, every bit as good as a VW.

And yes, I am aware of what French company now part-owns Nissan :( Hopefully the partnership between the two will lead to an improvement at Renault rather than a deterioration at Nissan :)

As for safety, that's all well and good, but if the damn thing is in the garage 10 times in the first year (I kid you not, that is a typical figure for Renault these days) it's pretty pointless.
