LG GCE-8520B 52/24/52 CD-RW & 99-minute media

Postby oRBIT2002 on Thu May 22, 2003 1:26 am

I recently sent an e-mail to LG "complaining" that the GCE-8240B didn't support reading 99 minutes CD-R (reads only upto 92 minutes but writing seems to work however). They mentioned that it might get fixed in a future firmware, however as 99-minute CD-R's aren't standard, they doesn't seem to care too much about it sadly. :-((
I bet 95% of all drives released today supports 99-minute media (even if it's isn't a standard) so LG would be stupid to ignore this issue.
So if anyone feel like it, feel free to e-mail LG Electronics about this issue and let's hope we all can get a firmware fix for this great drive.

It's very odd that they would support burning 99min and not reading 99min... this sounds like some sort of goofup somewhere in the production and it will likely be fixed soon in a firmware update. I don't see how they could let such a big mistake like that last for long.

They claimed in their e-mail to me that they didn't even test this kind of media since it's not standard.. :/

Technically it doesn't conform to any of the standards. A lot of drive and media manufacturers have stayed away from 90/99 minute media because of this.

Anyway, are you talking about the GCE-8240B or the GCE-8520B? The subject says one thing while your message says another.
