LG GSA4120B Or NEC 2510a

Postby mamado on Thu Aug 05, 2004 8:29 pm

At first I was thinking of buying an external drive, but as people thankefully pointed out that it is cheaper to get an internal drive and buy an external enclosure, which should perform the same.

So, I am now down with the choice of an internal drive #-o
I am thinking of:
Px712A (expensive, but arguably (or not) the best) so it is still in the back of my head.
and

LG GSA4120B Vs. NEC2510a

After seeing the LG review I am more inclined to get it, The review was great Ian Thanks =D> =D> =D>

This review also made me put back the Plextor option.

So any thoughts on direct comparisons between the LG and NEC.

Or should I dump more $$$ and get the Plextor for what it is worth (ignoring the problems people reports recently)
Best Regards,

Depends. If you have no wish to use DVD-RAM ever, then the LG will kinda be overkill for you. If it was my choice, I would go with the 2510a over the plex simpily because the Plextor isn't worth the asking price over the NEC, plus my 2500a (pretty much same thing as 2510a) wrote excellently to all my cheap media at higher speed than they were originally intended to go.

until Plextor can find a way to fix their drive, I would not recommend getting the POS-712a!

The NEC-2510a is a good drive, you'll like it. So is the LG 4120B, but it is less hackable :-?

Thank you very much dolphinius for the advice.

That is exactly what I would do, I don't need DVD-RAM, so I will go for the NEC, I hope the 3500 will come soon [-o< , otherwise I will get the 2510.
