For some reason I expected it to be rewritable. Even with a 300GB capacity, I just couldn't bring myself to spend $180 on write once media.

Next year, supposedly...we'll see.

$180 is steep...but I'd pay that for the 1.6TB media =P~

The 1.6TB media is a ways away yet... also the drive makes BluRay players/burners look like cheap chinese DVD players at Walmart.
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

Well, at least the discs are marginally cheaper than BD-R per GB, although I see the price of BD-R dropping much faster than these holographic discs.

Oops, my CPU got maxed during the burn, there goes a $180 disc. :o
Rewritable is definitely needed.
