In House Review - ASUS DRW-0804P 8x DVD±RW

Postby Ian on Thu May 13, 2004 11:51 am

Today we bring you a review of ASUS's new 8x DVD±RW drive, the DRW-0804P. Based on Pioneer's award winning DVD±RW, the DRW-0804P is capable of 8x DVD±R and 4x DVD±RW writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. ASUS's new drive also includes features like 24x CD writing speeds, 40x CD read speeds and support for buffer underrun protection.

In this review we'll take a look at some of the features found on the DRW-0804P and see how it compares to some of the DVD±RW drives from the competition. Does the drive deliver the performance and quality ASUS is known for? You'll have to read the review to find out.

This is one of the last few 8x8 drives still in the review queue and the last Pioneer based drive we're going to look at. Expect to see some 12x and DL drive reviews soon.

I'm not sure why this isn't online yet, but here's the 1.13 firmware for those that want it:

0804P113.zip

It showed up to late for me to use it in the review.

Nice review ,Ian. Do you think it's +R performance was up to snuff?
Also, which new drives are you going to be reviewing? LG 4120? Plex 712?

Hello!

Great review again, Ian :)

Looks like Pioneer and Asus have made a great drive with very good writing quality. Why do they not increase the CD-writing speed, like Plextor and BTC?

I don´t know should i buy a Pioneer/Asus or wait what the Plextor 712 and LG 4120 can?
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more
