In House Review - Plextor PX-712A 12x DVD±RW

I've been looking to pick up my first PC dvd recordable, this drive -- everyone seems to love it, in reviews, etc. I'm thinking about getting it, but it's pretty expensive. I also considered the Pioneer 107D, but it got slammed pretty hard in a review at Cdfreaks....

I'm still researching.... PS. Does the CD-R extending function actually allow you to burn nearly 1GB on a CD-R??

At the time of the CD Freaks review, the 107D deserved those comments. Since then though, most of the problems have been fixed via firmware updates. Most people here would agree that its one of the better 8x DVD writers out there, especially when you use the hacked firmware.

And yes, you really can burn that much data with GigaRec. Just keep in mind that compatibility will probably be an issue when you start cramming that much data onto a disc.

Where do you dl the hacked firmwear at? I've read the Pioneer 107 works best with it. thanks man

The DVR-107 *IS* the hacked firmware, it would be worthless without it.

When will the review of the LG GSA 4120 come?

I just got my retail 4120 today. Still no 5x DVD-RAM media though.

I thought LG had sent you a sample drive.

5x DVD-RAM disc was omitted from the package for cost saving and early market introduction.
