In House Review - Samsung SW-252B 52/24/52 CD-RW

Postby Ian on Mon Apr 21, 2003 8:05 am

CDRLabs has taken a look at Samsung's new CD-RW drive, the SW-252B. Featuring some of the fastest speeds currently available, the drive reads and writes at 52x and rewrites at 24x. The SW-252B also has its share of features including a huge 8MB buffer, Ricoh's JustLink and JustSpeed technologies and support for the Mt. Rainier format. In this review we take a closer look at the features found on the SW-252B and then put it up against some of the 52x writers from the competition. Is Samsung's new CD-RW in your future? You'll have to read the review to find out.

At the request of a few readers, I went back and retested the DVD-R read speeds on the LG GMA-4020B Super-Multi DVD-R/RW/RAM. I'm not really sure why, but this time around the results were better. Anyway, if you have any comments or questions about either review, please post them in the forum by clicking the link below.

Neat. :)

To avoid buffer size issues, please make it clear in the Conclusion that only retail models have 8 MB, while OEMs have 2 MB. Thank you.

From conclusion:

"Just make sure you get the retail, and not the OEM version of the drive if you want the 8MB buffer."

Now I have to admit I've read only the Highs and Lows.

Though it would be more evident if you point out that OEM version has only 2 MB buffer in Lows paragraph...

Careful! You're liable to lose your PiMP status that way.

I have to admit that I usually skip the conclusion altogether , preferring to draw my own. But sometimes I miss something important by doing that. :(

Oh well, I need a break. And just now when I wanted to enjoy spring skiing, operators ended the season with three feet of snow left. Unbeliveable. :(

I hate it when they do that. They close at the end of March around here even if there is 10' of snow on the ground.
