How Are These Drives?

LTD-166S - Lite-On 16X DVD

LTR-52246 - Lite-On 52x24x24x CD-RW

Anyone have these drives? How are they? I noticed them at NewEgg.com. The DVD is $44.99 and the CD Burner is $70.00 Would these be better than Samsung's new combo drive? I noticed they only have a 2 mb cache buffer and the Samsung has a 8mb cache buffer. I have been all set on getting a combo drive. I do have two drive bays. Thanks, Craig.

I don't know about the DVD-ROM but Ian reviewed the LiteOn 52x24x52 as the CenDyne at http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=160
It got a 9/10 overall and looks like an awesome burner. The only compaints are that about the RW not using P-CAV and as a result being a lot slower.

Check out that thread in the HOT DEALS section.

BuddhaTB posted that the drive is on sale for $45 after rebates.

It's a Bus Link drive (OEM Lite On). My experience with Bus Link is that the ONLY thing Bus Link about it is the box & printed manual. Everything else is Lite On. The drive will be recognized by Nero & Windows as an LTR 52246s. That means you can use Lite On Firmware to upgrade the drive!

So buy the DVD @ www.newegg.com and get the Bus Link @ Best Buy

I'm pretty happy with the 166s i just got to replace my 163. It was able to rip the Protected audio CD More Fast and the Furious I have, some type of cactus data shield. None of the other Buslink/Lieon drives I own will touch it.
It just as fast as the older drive, it's shorter, it's a bit less noisy. It is still being sold in the exact same box my Buslink/Liteon 163 was in from a year ago so Buslink just keeps getting the latest model and throwing them in the old package.
