Actually the failing CMC disc is a rather attractive gold color, so it doesn't exactly "look" nasty. I would have to agree that the color change was a big surprise to me as well, and would be very disturbing if I had burned those discs expecting them to have a normal lifespan. The error results confirm the visible degradation. I must say that I have never seen or heard of a disc visibly degrading so quickly under normal circumstances.
