interesting Imation CD-R results

Postby UALOneKPlus on Fri Jun 06, 2003 3:16 pm

I'm using a 50 pack of Imation CD-R's, and the first 20 or so CD-R's burned on my 48X Lite-On resulted in errors, sometimes a large percent of errors.

The last 3 Imation CD-R's from the same batch burned with my 48X Lite-On has resulted in 100% Good discs...

This is nice, but king of strange...

Has anyone else experienced such wild media fluctuation in a single CD-R Spindle???

Yeah, especially with CMC discs like the Imations. I've even had a few packs where I had two different batches of discs with different ATIP info.

so have I...I had this one spindal that was mainly branded CD-Rs, but there were 5 CD-Rs that were in it that were silver/silver, and had a different ATIP, I just laughed it off, but decided I'd complain if it happened again...it didn't.

That's the reason I stopped buying any CD-R's made by CMC - that inconsistant quality. They dont care about quality like TY does, they just crank 'em out and sell 'em as fast as they can.

I bought a 24 pack of CMC made Memorex 74min (yellow dye, 24x speed) about 2 years ago and the design of the numbers (printed in the center) changed halfway through the spindle. I only had a 12x Sony at the time and they all burned OK.

I've seen some fairly good results from some CMC media before, actually, the CMC media used in Verbatim products is usually pretty good. However you are generally correct, it is still inconsistant.

Right now I can buy T.Y. media for cheaper then almost any other type though anyways! :D

You must be crossing over into the USA.

Here in Ontario I haven't seen a 50 spindle of 48x Fuji's for under $38 & GST/PST.

Although I read that Best Buy stores in Canada have them for $29.99, I've yet to confirm that.

That's odd. Imation is the only brand I know I can trust in my 52x Universal Buslink (LiteOn) drive. Thus far I have burned one coaster out of three spindles. I also like the fact that they go on sale for $4 for 50 at Best Buy all the time.

Today I picked up a 50 pack of Philips discs at Best Buy for $3. They appear to be made by the same manufacturer so I'm happy about that.

As I stated in my other thread, I bought a 50 piece spindle of MoserBaer discs, which I thought there great. Burned first 20 fine, at 48x, no problems whatsoever. Then about 10 of them burned at 48x resulted in bunch of errors at the end of dics. No errors appeared if burning at 40x, but there were some C2s. And then after 15 or so dics (the bottom of spindle), it went like this - one good, one bad, one good, one bad..

So yeah, quality varies even in the same spindle :(
