KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST error at beginning of data verification

when i use the Verify option of Nero when burning a data DVD+R the Nero window says "Data verification completed successfully".
great. but a look at the log shows this:

the error occurs just at the start of the data verification.

wtf ??

this doesn't happen for DVD-R, only DVD+R.
this is repeatable (it's not that particular burn), and happens for a variety of media MIDs.

anyone know what's up?
can anyone confirm they have this happneing too ?
