does the Lite-On SHM-165H6S support, that is write, DVD-RAM ?
the info on the website isn't clear.

i thought it did, but reading the specs on the website i would say no ???

nevermind.
the european site is more detailed and accurate.

it burns DVD-RAM at 5x.
both the SHM-165H6S and the SHM-165P6S.

i thought it was the M in SHM that made it Super All-Write :)

Yeah, that too. I always looked for the 5 for some reason.

I look at the numbers too- the letter salad at the start of the drive's ID changes more often than some people change their underwear.
5 means it can read/write DVD-RAM (6S drives)
0 means it can't.

this convention is for the 6S drives. which is 4 drives:
SHW-160P6S, SHW-160H6S
SHM-165P6S, SHM-165H6S
based on this small sample size it's hard to make generalizations :(

G, which of these do you have, remind me ?

Yeah. But the H applies to 5S as well- and don't we frequently jump to premature conclusions based on insufficient data here? It's one of the things that makes life fun (outside of the more rigorous scientific environment, although sometimes there too  )

I have the 165P6S. I want to try DVD-RAM- I have 1 Panasonic 5x DVD-RAM disc that I haven't unpacked yet :o.

Since I have a printer (Canon i865) that does a wonderful job printing in full colour directly on printable dics in under a minute, I have no desire to pay 3-5 Euros extra for something (Lightscribe) that I don't need. (and besides, the 165H6S has just started to show up in online shops here).
