Liteon copy problem - i/o device error

Postby asuh on Sat Sep 20, 2003 5:53 pm

I am having serious problems with my cd burner. I just bought the new 52x32x52x and can't successfully copy anything from the burner to my desktop, to my computer in general. It always gives me the same error saying there's an i/o device error.

SO, I read in another forum that I should go into the BIOS and disable the DMA option for the IDE channels. I did. Now, when I go to the IDE Channel properties in the device manager for the IDE channels, I have this mode called "Multi-Word DMA Mode 2". Is this mode okay for DMA? It's different that the Ultra DMA Mode (I think that's what it was called).

DMA option for the IDE channels

Disabling this is a bad idea, best to leave it at auto or at DMA. You may need to check your jumpering for the drive, and the IDE cable could be bad.
If you're running 2K/XP, try uninstalling the IDE channel the drive is on and rebooting. (after setting the BIOS back to DMA or auto).
