Looking for BTC combo (media reader) DVDR drive

Postby hardware_failure on Fri Aug 13, 2004 8:20 pm

Does anyone know where I can buy this drive or similar?

BTC DRW1108IB – Dual Digital Storage (DVD+/-RW Drive + 7in1 reader)

I have a BTC 5216IA unit, which is basically the same thing but just normal CDR and its AWESOME. Very slick and no problems.

I have also installed multiple DRW1008IM units (both BTC and emprex branded), IMO they are unbeatable bang for the buck. (currently on sale at frys for $60)

Anyway, I cant find the DVDR version of this 7in1 drive anywhere.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Nothing against that. I don't think anyone knows. BTC drives are very hard to find here in the US.. and the 7in1's are almost impossible. You'd probably be better off buying one from IOMagic or Digital Research.

Hmmm bummer. Oh well. Thank you very much for the response and link. Im surprised these drives are not more popular, they would be awesome for high-volume OEM builders. Has CDRlabs ever gotten their hands on a combo drive similar to this?

A Combo drive is a drive which reads DVD's and write's CD's. The DRW1108IM would best be called a DVD Burner.

Yup. I made a simple mistake of mislabling "Dual digital storage" as "combo" because of a combination of features.

Actually at best it would be called "Dual digital storage." (according to the people that made it) Funny, I dont recall ever mislabling this drive as combo? (only the DRW1108IB)

Is it really that big of a deal?

I don't know anywhere in the US where BTC drives are sold as such. I/O Magic definitely rebadges them- I know because I bought one. While inexpensive, their drives are not all that impressive in the end. Why not just purchase a usb media card reader, and than you can get any dvd drive you want?

This unit can be purchased however it is very difficult as I just purchased one. You have to go to IOMagic's home page as nobody else carries it at this point, and talk to someone on their "Live Chat" who will tell you they carry the product but for reasons unknown, it is not for sale on their online store. He will give you a toll # where you will leave a message and in my case they called me a day later and took the order over the phone. They shipped to me w/o online confirmation and I received the product w/o packing slip or invoice. They e-mailed me a JPEG of the invoice upon request.

I thought this was a stand alone unit able to transfer data from a CF card to DVD w/o a computer, it cannot do this, they will not return it. Mine, shipped April 27th and used once to burn 1 CD is for sale if you want it. Everything is perfect, I'll get it to you sooner than they. I paid $129.99 plus shipping. Make me an offer!
