Memorex labeled "prodiscS03" bubbling/breaking

Postby crazywhitie on Wed Dec 24, 2003 2:05 pm

Wow I'm ultra pissed right now. I have a plextor 708a. I bought these memorex dvd-r from office depot online. I usually buy dvd+r but I wanted to try the -r because one of my standalones doesn't support +r. Until today I didn't have any problems.

I've burned about 10 of these dvd-r's without a problem. I come across a coaster after dvd decrypter said it successfully completed but it didn't read the dvd after it burned. Okay so i try to burn the movie again, it messes up during the burn and gave me an error. then one more time it completes and doesn't run on dvd player again.

I look at the dvd and there is bubble effect on the dye. I bent it back and forth and it started cracking and the whole dvd fell apart. I burned a cuple more dvds and they all came out messed up. Either this bubble effect or when I play them in the dvd player they pixilate until the movie crashes.

Has anyone ran into any problems like this? I have about 30-35 more of these dvds I don't know what to do?

That sounds like a VERY bad batch of discs! Return them ASAP for an exchange/refund. If they won't take them back because they're open, get ahold of Memorex.

I have some Memorex 4x DVD-R's that ID as CMC. I haven't had any problems with them, but they ARE CMC's so I don't trust them for data...

You'd have to talk to Office Depot about that - explain to them what happened. I know Best Buy is pretty good about doing exchanges on bad disks...

CMC actually proved to make quite good DVD disc's these days. The technology they use is based on MCC technology !! The main difference is that they are ussing is a mixture of Cyanine + AZO for the dye. So not a full AZO dye like MCC uses.

Still the aren't well suported by most companies and that is why people better should not buy them.

Prodisc DVD media is very bad. They use a full cyanine dye and are known for quality problems.

Is there any way to tell what type of dye is used on the DVD? like how we check with ATIP numbers on CD-Rs??
