4 month old Pioneer 107d burning coasters, dead already?

Postby jrw on Sun Nov 28, 2004 10:15 pm

Hi I've been using a Pioneer 107d for about 4 months now without any problems , however yesterday it started burning coasters one after another and also causing swirl marks to appear on the bad discs, I'm using Ritek G05 8x media and never had a problem with them, I thought maybe I had a bad batch but I then tried a TDK 4X DVD+R and it also coastered and has these same swirl marks :( , Should I just assume its bad or anyone have other ideas, One other wierd thing I noticed is both Nero and DVD Decrypter wont let me burn any higher than 4X since this started happening, I'm using the latest official firmware .. Thanks in advance

Heres a pic of one of the burns.

A few things to try:

1. Make sure that DMA is enabled for the 107D... and the rest of your IDE devices

2. Try another IDE cable

3. Try the drive in another computer

Wow, I can't believe this actualy worked but someone told me they had the same problem and fixed it by using a brush type cleaning CD , I figured what the heck and bought a Scotch brand cd lens cleaner (has small brushes on the bottom) and it actualy worked! Nero & DVD Decrypter now let me burn at 8x and so far i've burned 3 images in a row with no problems or swirl marks, I've always thought these cleaning cd's were a gimmick but guess I was wrong, I was so close to ordering another burner to.. Thanks for the replies.
