any got a good recommendation on what mp3 to buy thats nice and small yet have at least 1gb of space? and cool looking

will i be able to transfer my rip mp3 from my cd's to the ipod? or do i have to buy the music from Itunes?

Yes, you can load it with mp3 files ripped from your CDs. There is no need to buy your mp3's from iTunes, although Apple does hope that iTunes encourages people to buy iPods and iTunes has features to make it easy to manage your mp3 collection .

Yes you can transfer them with out any probs.Use a good MP3 ripper though for quality.
