NEC ND-3520A, any better drives/problems? Ordering soon

Postby Svperstar on Tue Feb 22, 2005 7:34 pm

Like the topic says, I am planning on ordering a DVD burner tonight or tommorow, and from what I have read it seems like either tied for the best or the best, unless there is something I don't know.

So any comments?

Thanks :)

Plextor!

Postby steelly on Tue Feb 22, 2005 8:21 pm

If you can get your hands on a Plextor 716A; that is what I consider the best drive: Bundled software and support are second to none. I have the 712A, but those have pretty much disappeared from the market. As of last weekend, several sites were sold out of the 716A. Also, several retailers have raised their prices on this drive lately, so shop around for price and reputation!

Check Best Buy if you want the Plextor PX-716A @ $100, AMIR. If you want to save $35 on the second best, get the NEC ND-3520A.

Hi!

The NEC 3520 isnßt bad, but the FW-support from NEC is one of the worst. If you have the money, go for the Plextor. A very good writer with a very good FW-support

While NEC is slow with releasing firmwares. The current firmware is ok.
The plextor does have some fancy extra's but is that worth double of the NEC's price that's up to you to decide.
WHen you mainly burn +R I would recommend Benq 1620 (PRO) but on -R the NEC is the better drive.
For us Euro's Philips also gives 2 years waranty on there burners. Just for the folks who allways say Plextor has 2 years.

Definitely not. Besides, not everyone is having good luck with the 716A. Check the ExtremeMHZ for proof that.

Plextor 716A - $89.95

Postby steelly on Fri Feb 25, 2005 5:31 pm

Plextor doesn't cost that much more and the
quality & firmware support are worth the few
extra bucks it cost. I bought both my
Plextor 708A and the 712A at
[-X futurepowerpc.com =D> for a very
resonable price and great service!
Right now they have the Plextor 716A for
$119.95 with a $30 mail in rebate; that is
$89.95 total cost: Plextools is worth that!

Of course you have to deal with a mail in rebate. I haven't seen feedback either way on the fulfillment house that Plextor is using for their rebates.
