dang! still can't burn Optodisc 4x DVD-Rs properly.... it's MUCH closer now, as it only fails during the leadout, and not two thirds of the way through the burn.... maybe in the next firmware it'll work?

Argh! doing a transfer rate test on the "failed disc" shows it to read perfectly... but trying to scan it shows a "test range error".... I think it's almost certainly a flaw in the firmware now, since the disc seems to be quite readable even up to 12x on the Plextor.

Hopefully next month's update will fix this problem!

yeah, just too bad Plextor doesn't release firmware upgrades as frequently as some of the others do.

The Plextor 712a can now actually BURN Optodisc 8x DVD-Rs with TY code.... how much you wanna bet that when the Optodisc 8x DVD-Rs come out with an OPTODISC code, they suddenly stop working.... :o

Burn quality isn't great from what I've seen... but it looks like it should play ok. I only had 5 min to test the disc before I had to run to work, so I'll look at it MUCH closer when I get home tonight :P
