Is it a problem to get a 1640 in Canada? In Germany some shops have it, many shops are waiting for it

Strange

Here is it avaible in 8 shops. That´s not really much, but it´s not impossible to get the 1640

You wrote that Benq don´t send you any drive because you don´t liked their CD-writers? Maybe you ask Benq again?

That was BenQ USA. We have a very good relationship with BenQ's people in Taiwan. They just haven't shipped drives out to reviewers yet.

I don´t understand why the reviewers get so late the drives. Maybe the manufacturer is afraid of the review-conclusion?

It *IS* possible that they are holding off sending their drives out until they have finished a certain firmware update. I know they were about to release the drives a couple weeks back, but then the drives were pulled back again for unexplained reasons. I don't think ANY review site has been sent one yet, and the only people who've been able to test them are people who've bought them.

But I'm just as happy to wait, since it means that I might NOT have to worry about 2-4 new firmware updates coming out WHILE i'm reviewing the drive :o
