...and the SOHR-5238S and the SOHD-167T... you should update your thread title... ;)

The 832S and 832SX are two identical drives using the same identical firmware...

No... I was re-writing which write strategies are used with different media types... but every write strategy that has been "improved" by LiteON may not work with the media I connected it too, and now others might work even better then the ones that were really good... so I have to start again!

Hey Code, I need your help man. I couldn't get the official VS0A to patch with the omnipatcher, and the hacked one from your website was only for the 451s@832s and it wouldn't work, so I tried just installing the regular stock LiteON VS0A and it killed my drive (I wonder if LiteON noticed the patched firmware, and decided to kill it). It's not a serious drive death though, just the flashing light problem. Anyway you could setup a place get the patched VS0A for us? I don't want to go back to VS08 if I can avoid it. Thanks!

Have you read http://codeguys.rpc1.org/oc.html ?

Your drive isn't dead by any means. Just load the right firmware, and all will be fine...

Yep. Official firmware is scrambled. So get the unscrambled official from my site and tick the little box. The unscambled 51S@832S doesn't give you the option to tick that box (it's grayed out), and that's how you tell the difference between the for-51S versions and the rest.

so where is the non scrambled version of the 832s firmware NOT for the x51s on your site?

edit: nevermind, it appears to be there now :D

has anyone actually gotten this firmware to work? everytime I try to load it onto my 812s@832s it kills it. The OmniPatcher also keeps putting out faulty .exe's which won't install either! :o

I've had to go back to VS08 so that my drive would keep working

Another quick question, can I use use the VS0A - Stock FW, run it through the Omnipatcher and apply it to my 812s@832s which is currently running the patched VS08 firmware?

From my experience I would say no, and that it will slightly kill your drive until you reflash with the VS08 firmware again... or at least that's what it did to me EVERY time I tried

I think it's a bug in Omni Patcher, but I can't get ahold of Code65536

Well I'll keep watching this thread to see what pans out before I try flashing then. Did you try with both the .bin file and the .exe or just the .exe?

Ok, I got it to work, from my experience I HIGHLY suggest using Omnipatcher 1.3.5 over older versions. I'm not sure why the older one didn't work when it should have, but the newer one did :D

One of the craziest recording experiences I have ever had.

Image

Lite-On 1213S VS08
Windows XP in safe mode
Gigabyte 845G
SATA Silicon Image 3112 on PCI
TY 8x DVD+R

I hope it's just something of a driver issue, not the drive's.

I have my 851 flashed with hacked 832S/VS0A firmware, which I also ran through Omnipatcher 1.35.

On the surface, seems to work ok (burns cd-r/dvd-r ok), but I have not tested thoroughly (i.e. not many burns yet).

Is this what you asked, or did I (again) misunderstand :)

cheers,

I was actually asdking about a native 812s being flashed with VS0A, but it's ok now, because I got mine to work now, so we know it's ok :D It looks like one of my systems had a problem with Omnipatcher 1.3.3, or maybe the file had become corrupted somehow? but when I downloaded and tried 1.3.5 it worked fine. :D

I got mine flashed as well. Must say I really like the auto bit-setting feature.
