New Mad Dog Firmware

Postby noycan on Tue Nov 09, 2004 10:17 pm

Mad Dog Multimedia has a new firmware on their site for their 16x burner. The file name is MD-16XDVD9_FW_2F9.exe date and has a November 2004 date. Does anyone know which NEC firmware version this corresponds to?

The URL is:

Thanks

Does this firmware work for NEC 2510? I have currently updated to 2.F7 firmware and works like a charm. is it possible to use this new version? If so, What are the advantages?

No, 2.F9 is for the 16x drive (ND-3500A) only.

Thanks Ian. I wasn't aware that a firmware can contain differing versions for each media type.

I find it funny that version 8 on the NEC retail is more advanced then version 9 of the Mad Dog OEM...

NEC 2.18 allows Ritek DL burns@2.4X but doesn't allow SL bitsetting.
But MadDog 2.F9 can do SL bitsetting.

geez, with all the revisions to Mad Dog's firmware... you'd think it'd be good or something.

Poor maddog firmware - it gets no respect :). Unlike the "official" NEC firmware, the maddog firmware supports single layer +r and now +rw bitsetting. This can be more important than esoteric write strategies for those of us with older drives that require bitsetting.

Ok. So NEC's v2.18 firmware is the latest for the ND3500A? I have a Shuttle XPC and the ND3500A is the only optical drive in it. What version of the firmware is the best right now? The official NEC v2.18 or the maddog firmware? Thanks.

There's a unofficial NEC 2.18 hacked, with added "SL bitsetting" from MadDog 2.FA. (Works great : believe me, it need some skill to do that !)

It's called "Liggy 2.18", and has now many many variants (adding all DL @ 4X, some other SL overspeed on many beta firmware...)

The original thread is here.
