my new NEC 3520A burning coasters

my dvd burner which i purchased a few months back is burning CD-R coasters with Nero 6.2.x. I can burn a DVD without any problems. i also have a relative new LG 52x cd burner which burns fine no coasters. It ends up taking about 10min burning @ maximum speed 52x. Is this normal ?

I've burned in Safemode and same thing the time takes over 10min and you can see the read buffer fuctuate big time for LG. The NEC simply just puts out coasters. Have yet to contact NEC support.

Any ideas ?

I'd check to see if DMA is enabled. If it's burning DVD's okay, it probably is.

Have you tried other media? It's possible the discs you're using are not of the best quality.

I'll check the DMA setting in device manager when I get home this afternoon. I've tried different media Fuji, Maxel and LG brand (CD-RW) and no difference.

Have you flashed it to 3.06 firmware (in Safe Mode!) already?

Nero 6.2.x - hmm, try version 6.6.0.16.

After Enabling DMA mode all is working perfectly. A 650MB CD-R burn took a just a tad over 2mins compared to over 10mins. The read buffer was steady at 94%. No coasters for the LG. Great burner.
