Newbee questions about multisession

Postby dsd on Thu Feb 19, 2004 1:32 pm

I've had a dvd+rw for a couple of weeks now and I just noticed that I've been burning in multisession mode( burning in R mode). I did some searches on the subject and am starting to understand it. My question is : Is this going to cause compatibility issues with the discs I made and other computers? And is there some way to render it?

I'm under the assumption that non multisession is probably the safest way to go if I need to use the dvd's on other computers, which I will.

If anybody could share some insight on this I would really apreciate it.

Thanks

The DVD + RW I have is KHypermedia #KDVRW8X

Great forum by the way

Dear dsd,
Hi.
Welcome to CDRLabs.
If you are going to use the disc on computers then you can use multisession discs without any problems. There were problems with some old CD-ROM drives,as they were only able to read the last session. But now all the DVD ROM's/CD-ROM's & burners can read without any problems.
See ya later.

That's not quite true in DVD's case. For instance there's a bug in WinXP (pre-SP2) that reads only the 1st session. Also some DVD drives can read only the 1st session.

Service Pack 2 for WinXP in not out yet, so does this mean that any computer running WinXP can only read the first session of a multi-session DVD or did I miss something?

Dear HyperYagami,
Hi.What I said about the first session was related to ONLY CD-ROM drives.I did mention that newer DVD/CD-ROM drives are able to read multisession discs without any problems. Also I am able to read all the multisession discs in machine with Win XP,Win XP SP1 and Win XP SP2.I faced no problems whatsoever.I faced problem with my old Samsung 32X CD-ROM drive that cant read multisession discs.
And noycan,SP2 beta is out for testing. And if you regularly use Windows Update you probably have SP2 files installed already.Just you wont see the new ICF and pop-up blocker until you install the official service pack.
See ya later,
