News about the Optorite DD0203 FW ???

Postby Dickmann on Thu Nov 06, 2003 4:06 am

Hey Guys,

i´ll would like to know :
Has anyone tested the FW 2.23 for the DD0201 with the Optorite DD0203 ? does it work with the DD0203 ?
Is the Problem with -R fixed ?
Is there anyone of you who knows from Optorite when they will bring out
a new FW ? At last they said in Oktober, in one or two weeks...

What do you think, Optorite / Accesstek / Sanyo made for all the Burner
new Firmware, but no one for the DD0203 ? Will they forget the user
of the DD0203 because they have made newer drives like the DD0201
or the newest 8x Burner ?

Thx

I have a DD0203 and I haven't tried the new FW for the DD0201 and I don't recommend it.I don't use -R but I read you should use multi-session instead of new volume when burning with Nero.
Keep checking every week at: www.optorite.com/firmware.htm

New FW 2.23 for IISonic II8404A

Postby Dickmann on Thu Nov 06, 2003 3:08 pm

:) I´m from germany. Here the Sanyo / Optorite / Accestek etc.sell from IISonic and MSI. Today i updated my IISonic II8404A with the original
FW 2.23 from www.iisonic.com/download.asp

Look at this http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=18456 and here too http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=186135

I think you can try the FW with the Optorite DD0203...and than hope
that your Problem is fixed too...

to all Optorite users
hi all.
some of you may be been aware that this drive renders unreadable DVD-Rsin many dvdroms including Pioneer slot-ins 106s, 122, 109 etc, liteon ltd163d, toshiba m1712, LG 8161B, and many more. ( minus, plus are ok) due to error in DAO ( if you do Single Session it is okay).

now officially there is this latest f/w 2.23E which is released for the newer version of dd0203, the dd0201. but many ppl including me has sucessfully flashed this to dd0203 and it works fine. the DVD-R DAO issues now solved!

anyone , if u want to flash, i STRONGLY recommend to flash under real DOS. windows flasher tend to giv error.
gd luck!

ps. this is not official as f/w 2.23e only meant for dd0201, not dd0203. so do at ur own risk.

Optorite needs to update the firmware to support the new 4x DVD+RW (at least in 2.4x mode) - I tested the 4x Memorex DVD+RWs and they don't work, yet the 2.4x Memorex DVD+RW discs work fine. The Memorex 4x DVD+RW discs are priced cheaper than the 2.4x ones and I'm afraid they will only make 4x ones from now on.

Well, FW 2.23 for the DD0203 is finally here. I haven't used the DD0203 ever since I got a Pioneer DVR-106D for cheap, but decided to update the DD0203 just for curiosity.

My advice is to use the DOS flasher if possible, or disable DMA if you choose to use the Windows flasher according to others. Finally my Lite-On LTD-163 is able to read the burned DVD-R disc as confirmed earlier by people who flashed the DD0201 firmware to the DD0203. But it may be too little and too late for Optorite's goodwill.

Lesson to Lite-On and BTC, if you don't fix the DVD-R compatiblility problems with better firmwares within 2 months, you might as well withdraw from the market since the competitors will have better and cheaper products grabbing the market share.

I updated my Optorite DD0203 with the new v2.23 firmware and I noticed it added support for the new Memorex (Ricoh branded) 4x DVD+RW media which the older versions of firmware did not support - so it is an improvement!

I tried the new v2.30 firmware and then tested burning a DVD+RW, but it would never finish. I reverted to v2.23 and it burned fine in the correct amount of time for a 2.4x speed. I'd say avoid v2.30!

I purchased an Optorite DD0203 a week ago and I flashed it using dos to 223 before using it. So far I have burned to dvd-rw, dvd+rw and dvd+r media. I decided to stick with maxcel dvd+r media since it is the first time I have been able to get my PS2 to play any dvd media I have burned. Works on my Apex AD1500 also. Anyway I emailed Optorite and asked for details on the firmware updates and this is what they sent me.

Hello,

Firmware version 2.23 & 2.25 - adds support for more brand name media. See
http://www.optorite.com/dd0203.htm for a list of support media.

Firmware version 2.30 - fixes a bug in 2.23 that does not allow reading a
CD-R media after a DVD-R media has been burned or read.

More fixes will be posted on our website.

Thank you,
OptoRite Support
