News of CD-R/CD-RW Drives

am wondering if this is the cause of some of my CD problem as some of them have dust and the spot is there, the cd is readable but data loss happens.

would you pay a premium price for plextor? are they really much better than lower priced cd-writers?

i encounter some problems with my dru-500a and lite-ltr48125w on cases when my cd-r have a very small dust particle that covers the portion to be 'laser'ed by the cd-writer, after burning i noticed a small spot on the area they burn. when i do copying, i encountered an error, BUT... why do nero, cdrwin always report that the write is successful?

Will KProbe work with Sony DRU500 or 510 drives for "Write strategy" (CD) and "Tilt Analysis" (DVD) testing?

I have understood that current Lite-On dvd-recordable drives (the dual format models) are based on the Sony drives?

I'm asking because I can get Sony dvd-/+rw drives, but not the LiteOns, but would like to have drive for testing dvd-/+r disc burn quality.

I understand that the LDW-400d does not work with Kprobe, but that LDW-401 does. ...

has anyone flashed to the newests firmware?? v1.05

Has anyone burned 99min cds with the new firmware?? before I could only burn upto 94.59min on 99 min cds.. just wondering..

I bought the LTC-48161H LiteON combo drive from Newegg last week, and have been having problems with burns. The burns complete succesfully, but have many errors trying to read them back, even in the combo drive that just wrote them! Using the 24X CDRW disc that came with the drive, I tried writing a full disc (from a known-good ISO image file.) at 16X and 24X. Both CD-Speed's quality check and Kprobe reported huge quantities ...

Tonight I was in Best Buy and saw Verbatim DataLifePlus Ultra Speed 16x-24x 74 min 650 MB CD-RW discs in a 25-disc spindle. The price was $29.99. These discs are made in the Taiwan Mitsubishi Chemical factory. Go to the URL:

At another forum, I saw that people were upgrading the firmware for this drive (original firmware c.xf I believe because there are 2 versions. the other starts with d.x...) to be able to run 52x24x52 with mt ranier. Has anyone here attempted it and how did it work.

Ok, I've been having this issue as of late (as in the past few months). I've got a Plextor 16X Re-writeable drive, and an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ with 512 Ram, 30 Gig 7200RPM HD, etc etc. Good, stable system.

Up until the past few months, I've alwas been able to burn audio CDs with Nero, no problems, and play them in my car. All my old CDs that were 650 Megabytes still ...

My Benq 4824P makes a slight grinding sound when the system is restarted. It also does it when looking for a disc (but only when there isn't a disc) when it has firmware version D.UC. Is this normal? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Its "seek" sounds a little but like this grinding sound, but the drive works perfectly fine.
