In House Review - Lite-On LTR-52246S 52/24/52 CD-RW

CDRLabs has taken a long overdue look at the retail version of Lite-On's 52/24/52 CD-RW, the LTR-52246S. While affordably priced, this drive sports some of the fastest speeds available. The LTR-52246S reads and writes at 52x, rewrites at 24x and rips audio CD's at a blazing 48x. The drive also has has features like Lite-On's SMART-BURN and SMART-X technologies and support for the Mt. Rainier format.

In this review we'll take a closer look at ...

Imation 52x24x52 Internal CD-RW Drive

Does anyone knows if this is an OEM Lite-On LTR-52246S? Can this drive be updated with Lite-On firmware?

Is there any utilities to make a backup of the firmware on a CDR/RW?

Thanks,
Steve :wink:

Comparison of Lite-on, Aopen, Top-G 52x24x52 on VCD copy

I bought a CenDyne 52x24x52 (Lite-On), a BusLink 52x24x52(AOpen), and a Pacific Digital 52x24x52 (Top-G) from Staples and OfficeMax last several weeks. Here is the comparison of them on VCD or Music CD copy. I use single CD-RW for both reading and writing. The software I used were NTI, Nero, CloneCD.

Three of them have the same writing speed - about 2 min to write a 420MB VCD, which is multimedia audow CD. However, Lite-On ...

I'm used to getting TY made Fujis in the familiar screw-top cake box.
But I just saw some 48x Fujis at bestbuy ($9.99 for 100 after rebate), package says made in Japan, but NOT in the normal TY style cake box. Anyone know who made these? I'm scared they might just be mislabeled Taiwanese....

A Strange term "Mount Rainier" !!!

Mount Rainier explanation
Mount Rainier enables native OS support of data storage on CD-RW. This makes the technology far easier to use and allows the replacement of the floppy.
This is done by having defect management in the drive, by making the drive 2k addressable, by using background formatting, and by standardizing both command set and physical layout. The new standard is promoted by Compaq, Microsoft, Philips, and Sony and is supported by over 40 ...

@Ian: Some suggestions for reviews?

2. Can you show the C1/C2-Error-tests from all used media? Or just the write the highest/average C1/C2-errors with the used media?

I know, it will ...
