News of DVD Writers

I have been doing research on dual layer dvd burners and decided to create a post for some valuable feedback from you (hopefully). After reading many reviews I have picked 3 dual layer burners for consideration.

BenQ DW1620
NEC 3520A
Other drives??


I am new to this optical technology and would appreciate your thoughts and comments. Feel free to recommend other drives. I like to be informed before I buy. Thanks!

I just upgraded from my horrible HP 530i to a
Memorex 16X Dual Format Double-Layer DVD Recorder

What are your thoughts on this drive. For me it burns fantastics and I haven't burned a coaster yet. The media I use is TDK (use to use Memorex) and my burning suite is Nero 6.6 which came with the drive. The price of the software alone is worth the $69 I paid for the drive.

The DVD burner is a LiteON SOHW-1213SX, and on a machine with a MSI 655 Max-L / Intel 1800GHz / 4x256MB RAM new (and previously) burned DVD 4.7GB (4x) discs almost freezes the machine while waits forever trying to read the discs(s); -- on two other machines, both Asus P4S800 / Celeron 2.4GHz / 2x512MB RAM, the discs is readable almost instantly.

The software is Roxio, Easy CD & DVD Creator (version 6) and or ...

Sold as MoserBaer Pro 8X media here in India. Quite cheap (relatively), 40 rupees per disc, which is about 1$/per.

I just got my New Plextor 716A (Retail) from costco canada for 149.00. Brouht it home installed and upgraded the f/w to 1.06 Burned the brand new movie "Spanglish" Seems like good burn. Well guys, it's been nice doing reviews here, but after some careful thought and consideration I've decided to move to reviewing for anandtech.com. Just wondering if anyone has seen these anywhere in Canada - retail store or online.

I ordered them from Staples.ca, but when they arrived they were 1-2x not the 2-4x as displayed on the box.

So, has anyone got any sources???

Seems that Plextor was listening to all the conpmlains and they have relased a new firmware that fixes some of the bugs reported relating to CD burning.
