How well do external DVD burners work?

I was looking at USB external DVD burners.......16X Dual layer.....how well do they work compared to internal?

Will I notice much of a difference in speed compared to internal drive?

How much faster is Fire wire than USB 2.0

External drives seem to be quite popular....why?

Thanks for the info guys.

How trustworthy are the PlexTools scans?

Hi all,

I just got a Plextor 716UF. Part of it is because of the Plextools quality scans (I don't have a drive that supports the scans), part of it is to get the Plextor DAE, and part is I just wanted a fairly decent DVD burner.

Well, I've been playing around with Plextools and scanning some old discs just to get a feel for what's going on and I'm seeing weird results.

Firmware re-sets RPC-2 count ... is this true ?

Hi all !

Was talking to a friend and he and I both have the DVR-109 Pioneer unit.

It is RPC-2 protected - 5 region re-sets and thats it.

He advised that up until a "hacked" RPC-2-Free firmware is available, that you can just re-flash with the same firmware and it will re-set the RPC-2 counter back to 5.

This sounds too good to be true - anyone know if it is correct or not ...
