BenQ DW1620 writing to disc before opening tray?

Hi. I recently bought a BenQ DW1620 DVD-writer, and there is one small thing i am wondering about. I have been writing some data discs in Nero. When i try to open the tray after a burn, it will not open immediately. The light on the tray will be red for a few seconds, and then the tray will open. This only happens after i have been writing a new disc. Is the drive writing ...

DVD Burner for a PIII

Hi,

I'm new to this board and I did do a search on this, but the last posts were quite old (over a year), so please bear with me! :)

I have a PIII, 730MHz system with 512 ram running WinXP pro.

I would like to get a DVD burner for my system and was looking at the Plextor PX-716A, until I noticed the system specs. My ...

DVDFab...FYI

Don't know how I missed this one. Just discovered it last night. This is an awsome little program. It lets you split dual layer discs into 2 single layer discs. This allows you to "back up" your movies without any compresion. In many ways this makes it superior to dvd shrink. I tested it last night and it works like a dream.....plus its freeware. Check out the link below for a users guide and download ...

DVDInfoPro Scans - PI & PO spikes always same

DVDInfoPro is one of my favoreds, specially since now you can scan with Pioneer drives. However, I think there is still a minor bug that needs to be fixed. My observation is that when large spikes are present, almost always the peak PI and the peak PO are the same number. What is more strange is that frequently I see the number 693 as the peak for both PI and PO on many different DVD-R ...

LightScribe Drives Shipping, Media?

HP, the creator of LightScribe, is now shipping desktops with 16X DVD burners with LightScribe labeling technology.

Unfortunately, neither HP or anybody else seems to have LightScribe media. Apparently, there is a proprietary coating on the label side and a software encode such only LightScribe media can have the label side burned to create the gray scale image. A Google shows Verbatim will someday offer the media.

A check of the FAQ on http://www.lightscribe.com will ...

My first coaster......

After 3 months and about 150 burns I finaly got my first coaster......sniff...sniff...

TDK branded CMC Mag E01. I made 4 other burns at 12x with these discs with no problems and with exellent quality. We will see how the rest burn....

The lesson learned...stick to quality media!!! Back to my fuji 8x made in japan (ty). At sale prices (best buy, compusa, etc...) they can be had for .40 each.

Cravat Emperor....buyer beware!!!

Is ...

lower write speed = better quality?

It seems that pretty much all the reviews try to get he fastest write speed and the quality at that speed. I don't mind slow burns, and want better quality writing, so in general would writing at a slower speed improve things?

px-716 TLA# 0203/plus a new review

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php ... light=0203

I haven't read about TLA #0203 yet.

Also, there's a review using firmware 1.03 and TLA#0202 here:

http://www.dvdwriters.co.uk/reviews/ple ... 716ap1.htm

Would be nice to see a review with TLA# 0203 and the (currently beta) 1.04 firmware.

I would also like to see a head-to-head comparison with the LG-4163 (obviously plex doesn't do dvd-ram).
