News of DVD Writers

Hi guys

I just got my Lite-On LDW451S DVD writer from a local computer shop yesterday adn the firmware version is GSB4 and I know a newer version called GSB6 is available to dwonload.

May I know should I go ahead and download the firmware and upgrade my DVD burner to the latest firmware ?

Please kindly advise.

I thought that we should start a thread that lists certain DVD burners that are rebadged as something else. Please include the store as well. For instance:

right now i'm trying to decide whether i should get an lg x8 or a tdk 8x (plextor rebadged). I was gonna get the tdk, but i heard some people say that the lg is also 8x -r. could someone verify if this is true or not? if it is, should i go for the lg?? help please!

I recently got a Plextor 708a DVD+-RW. I also have a Plextor CDRW (241040a).

My box contains 3 Hard drives (7200rpm 80gb;5400rpm 80gb;5400rpm 60gb). I also have a Promise ATA 100 card(current Bios). Windows XP SP1.

The config i used was my 7200rpm on my Primary channel, DVDRW on the secondary channel, the two 5400rpm drives on the primary channel of the promise card, and the CDRW on the secondary channel of the promise card. ...

I just bought a Lite-on 411s (says so on box and chassis). After reading posts I grabbed the *F revision firmware but can't write it to the drive (drive properties says revision is *5 or something).

I'm using Win98SE (I don't ordinarily use Windows) and tried executing the extracted icon and it says "Error - no drives found." I tried running the executable from a dos prompt and after booting with the win98 ...

I think this is a re-badged Plextor 708A. I'm not sure how TDK is about firmware updates but I think this is a good deal.

In PA, after the $40 MIR it comes to $140 plus change. Any opinions or experience with TDK's products and support would be helpful.

Is the Buslink DVRW412RD the same burner as LITE-ON LDW-411S? I Got the buslink for Christmas but after opening I see it is LITE -ON model LDW-411S. It also has a BUSlink USA warranty sticker on it.

Doing research on both products found minimum CPU requirements ranging from Pentium166mhz, 266mhz, 700mhz, and 800mhz or higher is recommended. I have an AMD 400mhz, will that work? -- Whispers733

liton's site has been down for days and I'm unable to get it.

My questions are:

1. I want to make a DVD menu in that could load up to a 1000 different setup.exe files inside of different folders from the DVD disc.

2. If possible I want it to be a stand-alone .exe file started by the autorun.inf file.

3. This project would have:

One Form - window
One Menu List - where you select the program you wish to install
One Install Button - Click install ...
