maybe someone can confirm, if the Sony DW-U12A is the OEM version of the DRU-510A. According to "The Firmware Page" it is an OEM version of the 500A.
Here in Germany the hardware dealers advertise the U12A as the OEM version of the 510A. An inquiry at Sony remained unanswered.
Since the DW-U12A sells for 285 Euro (330 US$) and the DRU-510A sells for 330 Euro (382 US$), I really want to know what ...

Has anyone seen a firmware update on the TDK 440N. A friend a work said he downloaded one. I do not see one on the TDK support page.

Hi folks,

Just installed my Pioneer DVR-A05 DVD burner onto my PC. Everything is except when I do a full erase on my DVD-RW (Princo DVD-RW) I either getting erase failure or after a full erase, my DVD burner cannot access that particular DVD-RW any more.

FYI, if I just do the quick erase, no problem.

May I know how can I fix the problem ?

Just purchased at TDK 440 Dual Format burner from dell for a smoking price of 229.00 before tax. Have successfully burned DVD+R with several programs, but the only program to successfully burn DVD-R is recordNow. I've used Nero over the years almost exclusively, but when I try to burn a DVD-R in Nero, it errors and and says invalid command - aborting.

I have Nero 5.10.35 Enterprise Edition. Anyone had this problem with this drive? ...

I have recently purchased a Sony 510A and I am quite pleased with it's performance. But when I burn to disk it copies the region as well. I have tried to overcome it in 2 ways, by using DVD shrink 2.2 and setting region free when copying to hard drive and also by using DVD decrypter, by Tools>IFO>Region patch>Region free on the selected IFO files from DVD Shrink but neither seem to work. A TECHNICAL QUESTION,

ARE SOME STAND ALONE DVD PLAYERS FUSSY ABOUT WHICH
BRAND OF MEDIA THEY WILL PLAY.
I CAN PLAY DVD-R DISCS IN MY DVD PLAYER,A (PIONEER)
BUT IT WON,T PLAY IN A MATE,S DVD PLAYER, A (JVC).
IS THIS BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE PLAYER OR
COULD IT BE THE MAKE OF DISC BEING USED.
I USE DATAWRITE 4X SPEED & PRINCO 4X SPEED.

Just purchased the Sony 510UL external and the TDK IndiDVD internal. Both of these support the +R and -R format.
3 questions:

(1) which drive do people prefer/which is better. The internal TDK was MUCH cheaper than the Sony

(2) Which type of media is best -R or +R and why. Which has broader support with DVD players.

(3) Where is the best place to buy the blank media?

Hello everybody, I just bought a Sony DR510U for my birthday (tomorrow) BUT my Sony dealer tells me I have to get separate DVD-R and DVD+R media to use those recording modes, and my usual salesman at a computer store tells me that it doesn`t matter because the software makes the +/- difference in writing the DVD....
