Does anyone have experience on which cd-rom reader performs the best with data media recorderd on other machines with various brands of media? I find media that reads on drive A but not B, and other times media that will read on B but not A. I am looking for a drive that is the best in reading various media. any opinions?

i have the option of buying this drive used and cheap working perfectly
however i know little about it . its pro and cons i know its scsi
basically what id like to know is is it any good it doesnt do cd text
anything els can it be upgraded with firmware to improve it if so please give info etc id like to know anything about it pros-cons etc

Guess what gang? I have never been able to get my Sony DRU-500A to burn at 4X. I have bought several vendor's offerings of the Ritek 4X and none of them would burn more than 2X! What I noticed that did not look right was the CPU utilization on XP. It was up around 100% all the time it was burning and it would repeatedly drop to almost zero making a sort of ringing effect ...

I am going to be on vacation next week, and would like to order some KHypermedia DVD-Rs (CMC) for my A05 and DRU-500A.
I trust this more than Princo (hopefully the correct assumption).

There is one type of CMC 1X DVD-R (media ID = CMC MAG) that can be burned at 2X on a Pioneer DVR-105 (A05).
I want to know whether the KHypermedia DVD-Rs are the same type of CMC.

I've had the Sony DRU500a for a couple of weeks now (ordered online from Circuit City for $350) and I got a good deal on 5 packs of DVD-R KHypermedia "for general/for data use" (from Microcenter for $5/5 pack). I have had my TDK 32/10/40B for about a year and continue to have a problem with it. At random times anywhere from a minute to several days after boot-up it gets "lost" by WinXP. I own both an A05 and a DRU-500A.
I was thinking of getting Princo 2X DVD-R, since both burners can burn
these at 2X, while only the Sony (for now at least) writes many 1X DVD-Rs at 2X.

I read so many things about Princo being crap, and Ritek being better

Anyway, I just put together a new system consisting of an XP 2600, Asus Nforce 2 Mobo, Sony DVD RW, Lite On DVD player, All in Wonder 9700 PRO and an internal, EIDE Yamaha CRW-F1 driver.
