My TDK 32/10/40B doesn't work

Postby bryus on Tue Feb 11, 2003 11:55 am

Help.

I have had my TDK 32/10/40B for about a year and continue to have a problem with it. At random times anywhere from a minute to several days after boot-up it gets "lost" by WinXP. I have tried it in all four IDE slots. I have the latest Nero and InCD updates. My PC will lockup for a couple of seconds on and off for about a minute then it is gone. It does not respond to the eject button and WinXP does not see it. But when I reboot it works again.

All TDK has told me when they reply is to move it from the Primary Master to the Secondary Master. My old Smart & Friendly 6/4/24 never had this problem. I am running a copy of Nero Burning ROM that I bought before I got the TDK. It worked fine on my S&F.

I am at the end because of the unreliability of the drive and haven't heard back from TDK.

Mayhap the TDK has reached the end of its life. It may be time to shop for another CD-RW drive, although this shouldn't be hard since prices are dirt cheap now.

That is the conclusion I came to also. I am now installing my Plextor PX-W4824TU drive and it is sweet.

But, the TDK is still under warranty and I want them to do something. If they can send me a new 32/10/40B or better drive that works I will be happy. I can always use it in my PC at work or donate it to my parent's PC.

Ah! You are golden then! Definitely contact TDK customer support and ask to replace/repair the drive since it is still under warranty. When you done dealing with the TDK customer service experience, be a nice bloke and post a comment about it in this thread please. :)
