JVC Puts DVD-RW DL Media On Hold

JVC has delayed the release of its DVD-RW DL media again. The discs were originally supposed to come out in August 2007 and were pushed back until Jan or Feb of 2008. From what I can tell, they are now on hold until compatible drives are available. Translation:

Verbatim Dual Layer media ?

I'm still using Verbatim MKM made in Singapore, dual layer media in my Benq DW1640. I looked recently at Micro Center and in 10, 15 or 20 packs I could only find Verbatim, made in India, DL media. How's the quality and performance of this stuff? What are some good alternatives? I'm guessing that if I find any more of the MKM made in Singapore, it will be remaining older stock, which would be fine ...

I heard that the best part of the program to check the quality of the burns is to use the IBG part of the program or the speed test instead of the PI Po section.

(1) What's the best way to check disk quality?
(2) How do you read and interpret the IBG section? ...

Dye defect or grease spot?

I picked up a spindle of Plextor (TY) silver inkjet printable CDs a while ago. These look really cool after printing and have been good quality.

However, one of them scanned with 3x as many C2s as C1s in KProbe. :o I had a closer look and saw what looks like an "unburned" patch on the dye side. I'm attaching part of a scan (with my flatbed ...
