re-occuring error since today

What was that?

re-occuring error since today

Postby dolphinius_rex on Thu Aug 04, 2005 11:38 pm

Ever since the forum went down due to a hacking attempt today, everytime I load a page I get the attached error.

Can this be fixed?

I don't have that option at work, where I do probably 60% of my CDRlabs surfing/posting from.... :o

Maybe I should try working more?

Yes. I get it with IE at work too- maybe it's the boss watching what we do?

Seriously- it doesn't show with Firefox or Opera (which I usually use if I can).

Isn't showing here on Firefox. I was lucky enough in that my school installed Firefox on the *doze PC's in one of the labs I had a class in, plus all of the Mac's had Safari on OS X, and some had Firefox (though I do prefer Safari to Firefox.)

Funny, I'm not getting it at work... was it fixed? or is WinXP not affected where Win2K is??

Either way, it just started happening after the forum went down, and it affects both my PC's at home.

As far as I know, there was no hacking attempt today. I'm guessing it was some of the stuff Socheat was working on.

Works fine for me under XP but under 2000 I get an error when accessing the forum:

Line: 244
Char: 1
Error: Object required
Code: 0
URL: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/

The error goes away once you login.

I can reproduce that problem with XP too. It just does it when you're not logged in.

It's most certainly doing it when I'm logged in.... I am never NOT logged in on CDRlabs actually.

It was doing it in both modes yesterday too- I had to click the "No debug" button several times while submitting the post.

In contrast to D_R, I normally log in only if I want to post something.

I just tried it here at home (WIN98SE, IE 6) and the error did not show up. It may depend on settings- I tend to be rather restrictive with ActiveX, cookies etc.

Socheat should be able to find the cause.

I on the other hand tend to be much LESS restrictive on cookies and ActiveX, giving permission for their use blindly and automatically. Yes, I know that isn't really a great idea

I won't be able to test this weekend, and I don't have a Windows machine readily available, so it might take a while to figure out. Not to mention, I'm working on something else right now that's a little more pressing... :-#

However, the changing line numbers leads me to believe it's ad code related.

It's true. my error number DOES change every time. I guess the best solution would be to remove all the ads on the entire website :D

More seriously, I'll make due for the moment... but please do try to look into it as soon as you are able. It's a serious post inhibitor for me, and a major pain in the @$$!! :o

Working great!! I'm getting that scrolling from the left hand side of the screen ad again....

In my case it seems to be back to normal (no more error messages). :D The ad sliding in from the left shows up on the first call (I think) and then shuts up.

Ahh, I misunderstood what Dolph was talking about, since we have ads that go down the left side of the main site too. Yeah, that's normal, and it's supposed to be there.
