Philips 48/16/48 - Can't boot from it

Postby ds99jove on Tue Feb 04, 2003 6:14 pm

Hi,

In my first post awhile back on this forum I had trouble installing my new CD-RW cause Windows XP did not install it correctly and I couldn't read any CD's until I managed to run the installation CD from a borrowed CD-ROM.

Now I just tried to do a re-installation of Windows XP, but got stuck in phase 1: Booting from the CD.

I know for a fact that this CD is bootable and it working. During the startup process the CD-device is also scanned for any bootable media (if I eject the CD at this time and re-insert it the procedure hangs for a couple of seconds when it scans the CD in the CD-RW, so there's nothing wrong with the bios settings).

What should I do? Are there any firmware updates I could try with? Something is seriously wrong if I need drivers for it to function as a CD-ROM, won't you agree?

Help much appreciated!

Does the drive support bootable CD's? Check the specs.

Hmm, I thought all modern drives did? Exactly where in the specs would it say?

I found this:
Compatibility for reading: CD-Audio, CD-ROM(XA), CD-Bridge, Video-CD, CD-Extra. CD-Text

Oh, the model number was : PCRW4816/20

Are you sure nothing happens, because you have to press a key within only a few seconds after WinXP bootable CD is detected.

What motherboard do you have?

Yes, I'm sure :(

I have a MS-6380, (also known as MSI K7266 Pro I think)
