Pioneer A06 & Fuji +RW Problems

Postby whoster69 on Fri Jun 27, 2003 8:49 pm

I just picked up a Pioneer A06 DVD burner. I've burned one DVD-RW (Fujifilm) and just attempted to burn a +RW (Fujifilm) disc. The burn was successful but the verify wasn't. The bottom of the +RW disc has small discolorations (spots) on it. The -RW doesn't. Is this kind of spotting normal? I took out another brand new Fujifilm +RW disc and it has spots too.

I wasn't able to erase the Fujifilm +RW disc either.

Are the discs bad? Is Fujifilm a bad brand? Are +RW normally spotty?

Any ideas?

I've never dealt with DVD-RW or DVD+RW media before, but I am sure that the +RW disc shouldn't have spots on it. Have you tried any other +RW discs?

I actually had a bunch of CRC errors with some Fuji +RW. I'm wondering if it's the media.

That's what I thought too. I wonder how I go about getting my money back? Do I take my slightly used 5 pack (2 opened) back to Best Buy or do I try to get money out of Fujifilm? They're supposedly guaranteed... :-?

I do have some +R TDK discs that I'll try tomorrow. I'll check for spots.

Anyone have any ideas on what could cause spots? That's a weird one!

spots

Postby chubz9 on Sat Jun 28, 2003 3:54 am

Hi,

I have been using +R/+RW media for a while now, although all of them was a verbatim brand. I used Verbatim 2.4x DVD+RW and 4x DVD+R, and none of them has spots on them, just pure purple shiny surface (+R) and dark green/gray surface (+RW). even after the burn, it looks like a regularly burned cd to me, as you can see where the data ended burning...

try some other +RW brand... might be fuji's responsibility to give your money back, or at least replace the discs, bestbuy probably won't use it, although they might accept it as an exchange (or even a return for credit) for the same media, just tell them it was defective or something... i can't believe fuji would make a faulty media, i've been using their cd-rs for a while now, no problems so far. dunno about their DVD media though. never tried one. when i had success with verbatim media, i sticked with it. buys them from www.microcenter.com, and picks them up in-store, thereby avoiding shipping charges.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've emailed Fujifilm about this. I'll let you know what they say. If they don't take them back, I'll try to exchange them at Best Buy.

I'd just take them back to Best Buy. I've actually returned a 10 pack of Memorex CDRs already to Real Canadian Superstores because my writer refused to recognise any of them. This was before I knew better than to buy Memorex and they took them back no questions asked. If a product is defective you ususally have like 7 days to return them and in your case the imperfection is visible and definitely not normal. In Fuji's defence I must say I've been using their -Rs and -RWs not to mention their CDRs and have never had a bad one. You were probably unlucky enough to have gotten a bad batch.

Thank you to all that replied. I have fixed my problem. I stopped by Best Buy and exchanged the Fuji +RW discs for a new pack. The new ones do not have the spots and they work flawlessly.

whoster69: Glad to hear BB solved the problem for you.

Does your Fuji DVD+RW disc say "Made In Taiwan" on it by any chance?

I bought 2, 3 packs of Fuji +R's @ BB (here in Canada) and they're made in Taiwan, not Japan. I'm just curious about the +RW's.

Thanks.

It's looking like Fuji has contracted someone out of Taiwan to make the DVD's. Taiyo Yuden must not be up to it yet for the +r(w) media.

I just checked http://www.t-yuden.com/recordablemedia/index.cfm and TY only makes DVD-R's, not +r's yet.

So I wonder who's making Fuji +R's now ?

Taiyo Yuden is making DVD+Rs too (see here) but they are hard to find if you're not shopping in Japan. I've found one place that sells them in the US (here) but they're expensive.

Fuji DVD+Rs are made by Ricoh/Ritek (or at least the 2.4x speed, I haven't seen any 4x Fuji DVD+Rs yet).
