Pioneer BDR-208JBK Vs BDR-208DBK

Postby johny69 on Tue Feb 19, 2013 7:37 am

I'm in the market of getting my first Bluray writer. I was set on the Pioneer 208DBK when I saw on ebay the 208JBK costing almost 3x more then the DBK. I started searching the web why is that the case but I couldn't find anything...
Any one here can enlighten me please? What's the difference of the JBK model to the DBK? At first I thought that they were the same drive but the JBK was for the japanese market but the huge difference in price made me think that there might be something more to it.
I also noticed that the JBK model had "PureRead 3" which I couldn't find on the DBK model... is that it or something else?

Thanks a lot guys.

Those are good questions. I don't think the JBK supports PureRead 3. From what I can gather, it supports PureRead 2. If you want PureRead 3 you need to step up to the BDR-S08J, which is even more expensive than the JBK.

From what I can gather, the JBK supports BDXL media where the DBK does not. Also, the JBK has a honeycomb pattern on the top that is supposed to reduce vibration.

The BDR-2208 is actually closer to the JBK than the DBK as it supports BDXL.
